4 Ways To Stop Podfade

by Rhys Waters

So many people who want to launch a podcast become overwhelmed by the sheer amount of information. Knowing what you should focus on is essential.

Here are 4 basic tips to stop podfade (the slow grind to a halt and eventual death of a podcast).

Passion is key

Above all else, talk about something you love. Podcasting can take serious committment to achieve the goals you set out. You'll need passion fuel to get you there. Also the audience isn't stupid, they want authenticity.

Be sustainable

Design a sustainable, realistic workflow. Promising new show everyday for the rest of your life might not be the right balance for a healthy existence. Consistency matters. Consider bi-weekly and maybe even monthly. Produce chunks of 10 in seasons with breaks to re-group and plan.

Build it right

Build a format that you know you can repeat comfortably. How complex is it to make one episode? How many guests do you need to muster? Can you do it solo or with someone nearby as a backup?

Manage priorities

Don't spend all your time thinking about LED lights, the best looking microphones and other trimmings. Put the time into making your show as high a standard as possible. Promotion is not an afterthought, it needs an equal amount of attention.
